The Seven Covenant Blessings of Abraham (Part 7)

#7 Through you all the families of the earth shall be blessed

“In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” Genesis 12:3

Question: Blessed with what?   Answer: The Holy Spirit

SO

The seventh and final blessing of Abraham is the promise of the Holy Spirit to all nations through faith in Christ Jesus .

#7 The promise of the Spirit

“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.’ Galatians 3:13-14”

“The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” Acts 3:8

To whom were the promises made?

‘The promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. It doesn’t say, “and to the descendants,” as if referring to many rather than just one. It says, “and to your descendant,” who is Christ. ‘ Galatians 3:16 (CEB). So the promises were made to Abraham and his seed, Jesus Christ.

What is the promise? The promise of giving the Holy Spirit to all nations through Christ.

Who is the Beneficiary of the Promise?  YOU

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49

Your mandate

You are a direct descendant of Abraham through your relationship with Jesus Christ, the SEED of Abraham,  therefore, there is a divine mandate upon your life to receive the promised Holy Spirit and be an instrument through which Christ will save and baptize others with the promised Holy Spirit.

This why Jesus commissioned His followers to,

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..” Matthew 28:19

The promise fulfilled:

and Jesus..

“being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;”  for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” ‘Acts 1:4-5.

FINALLY

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.’ Acts 2:1-4

Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts 2:33

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;” Acts 2:17
